Why We Recommend 24–48 Hours for Orchid Orders
At Orchid Boutique, we always want each arrangement to begin with orchids that are as fresh, healthy, and beautiful as possible. Because orchids naturally move through different stages of bloom, what we have in the shop can vary from day to day. Some plants may be newly opened with plenty of buds still developing, while others may be further along in their bloom cycle. That is why, whenever possible, we recommend placing custom orchid orders at least 24 to 48 hours in advance.
That extra time gives us the opportunity to look for the freshest orchids available and choose plants that are best suited for the arrangement we are creating. We look at more than color alone. We consider the condition of the blooms, the number of unopened buds, the shape of the stems, the health of the leaves and roots, and how each orchid will work within the overall design. Since every orchid grows a little differently, having additional time allows us to be more selective and intentional.
That does not mean we cannot create a beautiful orchid arrangement the same day. We often can. If we already have fresh orchids in store that are appropriate for your order, we can pull directly from our available selection and begin designing right away. In those cases, we generally ask customers to allow about one to one-and-a-half hours for preparation, depending on the size and complexity of the arrangement and how busy the shop is at the time.
The reason we recommend 24 to 48 hours is simply because it gives us more flexibility. Orchids are living plants, and they do not all arrive or bloom at exactly the same stage. Sometimes the perfect orchid for a particular design is already here waiting for us. Other times, we may want to bring in something fresher or find a plant with a stronger stem, more buds, or a particular color and shape. Having a little advance notice gives us the chance to adapt to what nature is giving us that day.
It also gives us time to work thoughtfully. While we are creating your arrangement, we are also caring for the orchids already in the shop and preparing other customer orders. Giving us a little extra time allows us to balance those pieces properly and give each arrangement the attention it deserves instead of rushing through the process.
So if you need an arrangement today, please still call us — we may be able to make it for you. But when your schedule allows, 24 to 48 hours is ideal. It gives us the best opportunity to choose fresh orchids, make thoughtful design decisions, and create an arrangement that feels considered from beginning to end.
