Light
Place in bright, indirect light. Filtered morning light is ideal. Avoid strong direct afternoon sunlight, especially because the clear glass can become warm in direct sun.
Water Reservoir
This arrangement is cared for differently from a traditionally potted orchid. Maintain only a shallow amount of clean water at the bottom of the glass to provide humidity around the arrangement.
The orchid crown and leaves should never sit in water, and the roots should not remain continuously submerged. Standing water in constant contact with the roots can encourage root rot.
Refresh the reservoir regularly rather than continually topping off old water. If the water becomes cloudy or develops an odor, replace it and clean the accessible glass surface.
Orchid Hydration
Monitor the exposed roots. Healthy hydrated Phalaenopsis roots generally appear green, while dry roots often become silvery-gray. When the roots become dry, carefully hydrate the root system and allow excess water to drain away rather than leaving the roots permanently underwater.
Environment
Keep indoors around 60–80°F with gentle air circulation. Avoid heating vents, air-conditioning drafts, and sudden temperature changes.
Maintenance
Remove spent flowers as they naturally fade. Keep water out of the crown and between the leaves, as trapped moisture can lead to crown rot. Wipe the inside and outside of the glass as needed to maintain the clean, transparent appearance of the terrarium.
