Meet the Cattleya: A Petite Orchid with Exotic Beauty

At Orchid Boutique, we are excited to begin incorporating Cattleya orchids into our smaller orchid arrangements. Their bold colors, sculptural flowers, and compact size make them a beautiful choice for customers looking for something distinctive.

Often called corsage orchids, Cattleyas are known for their ruffled petals and prominent center lip. They come in many colors, including white, pink, lavender, purple, yellow, orange, coral, green, and multicolored varieties.

Petite Orchids with Big Personality

Many of the Cattleyas we select are compact, with shorter, firmer leaves than the broad leaves commonly seen on Phalaenopsis orchids. Their smaller size makes them well suited for petite arrangements, while their colorful flowers still create a strong focal point.

Some Cattleya varieties are also fragrant, with scents that may be sweet, floral, citrus-like, or lightly perfumed. Fragrance varies depending on the variety and time of day.

Designed for Smaller Spaces

Our petite Cattleya arrangements are ideal for:

  • Desks and reception counters

  • Bedside tables

  • Bathroom vanities

  • Bookshelves

  • Coffee tables

  • Small dining tables

  • Hostess and thank-you gifts

We may pair Cattleyas with bark, moss, stones, foliage, branches, or other orchids to create a small living arrangement with texture and character.

Each design is created around the individual plant, its color, shape, and container. Since every Cattleya is different, each arrangement will have its own personality.

Caring for a Cattleya Orchid

Cattleyas prefer bright, filtered light, good air circulation, and a well-draining orchid medium.

Water thoroughly, then allow the potting medium to become nearly dry before watering again. Avoid leaving standing water inside the decorative container.

Cattleyas generally enjoy brighter light than Phalaenopsis orchids, but they should still be protected from intense afternoon sun and extreme heat.
